The existing house is
quite modest in scale, and the owner's
wanted to maintain that cottage-like
feeling. An airstream trailer serves
as a guest room.

The guest room.

The kitchen was completely
redesigned, with butcherblock counters,
reconfigured Ikea cabinets, an inset
pastry stone, custom stainless steel
wall and storage over the stove, and
wine storage in plywood cubbies over
the bar.

The walls were redone
in inexpensive lauan panels that help
create a cabin-in-the-woods with a view.

The line of windows extends
to a glass windbreak outside. New pendant
lights were hung over areas for entertaining.

In the master bedroom,
existing wood planks were removed from
the wall and new deep drawers and cabinets
were installed and faced with the wood
planks, giving cosiness and continuity
to the room but also allowing a whole
wall of new storage.

The vanity area was designed
like a train, with a continuous stainless
steel counter and sink and mirrored storage.
A wall-mounted mirror can be pulled out
in front of the window over the sink..

The garage was reconfigured
to be a 'teenager's lair' without increasing
the footprint. New doors, windows, overhangs,
and wood trim connect aesthetically with
the main house.

View of the interior
of the lair. The cantilevered bed nook
is lined in wood planks, as is the ceiling.
The study area has a built-in desk and
drawers of plastic laminate and plywood,
with bookshelves above.

The bed has adjustable
lighting on either side and a window
behind. Two large drawers below the bed
are for storing bedding and clothes.
