Bowery Office
New York City. Completed in 2005.
We were asked by a production company in New York to redesign their open-plan office. They had a beautiful space on the Bowery and when productions started staffing up, the number of people in the office could triple and there was nowhere quiet to have meetings. In addition, they had a desirable Manhattan outdoor deck that was located one storey up at the back of their offices, accessed by an unsafe open stair, so meetings were further interrupted by people going up and down the stairs.
We separated the meeting area from the surrounding office with a large rolling screen of oil-rubbed steel and glass, and a solid stair runs beside the meeting room, screened by an Ipe screen stained to match the steel. Under the stair we stacked storage, drawers, a roll-out TV stand, a fridge, and a pull-out counter for serving food and drinks in prefinished plywood cabinets. The floor is a reconstituted wood strand board stained a vibrant yellow. It’s a happy and efficient space.
